CFF Bowling Challenge 2011
Ottawa Finns Fail to Win Back Sisu Bowling Trophy (February 19,
2001)
- by Martti Lahtinen
Despite a hard-fought battle, the Canadian Friends of Finland
(Ottawa) once again lost out to a superior team in their annual
Nordic Challenge bowling tournament.
The Danes handily defended the Sisu Trophy, as the best team in
the 2011 Friends of Finland Super Bowl. It marked the Danes'
fourth win in succession. The Finnish team was a distant second,
with the Icelanders coming in third. The Swedes and Norwegians
failed to respond to the challenge. Perhaps next year. The
Danish Club included: Alice Jessen, Eva Andersen, Alice
Danielsen, Lis Olsen and team captain John Olsen.
Eva Andersen rolled the high single, 171, to claim the Tähti
Trophy. She edged teammate Lis Olsen and Martti Lahtinen of Team
Finland, who posted 170 scores. Ida Capern of Team Finland was
awarded the Sisukas Trophy, given to the most courageous bowler.
Ida preferred not disclosing her score, allowing only that it
was slightly higher than her acknowledged (49) age. The
Finnish team is considering borrowing a page from the NHL hockey
teams, the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs, to begin
recruiting new perhaps not necessarily younger but experienced
bowlers as part of their membership drive this coming year.

awarded.

One strike coming up! seems to be the word from Dorothy Ahlgren,
as she heads down the lane at the start of the Nordic challenge
bowling tournament in Ottawa.
