Most American and Canadian Finns know that St. Urho drove the grasshoppers out of Finland which saved the Finnish grape harvests from destruction. But did you know that St. Urho was also an expert on what it takes for a successful marriage?

Members of the Canadian Friends of Finland (CFF) in Ottawa were privileged this year at their annual St. Urho’s Day dinner to learn. that St Urho a.k.a. Costa Kapsalis and his wife Sinikka aka Mirja Kopsalis, who are in fact celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary and their 10th anniversary of guest appearances at the CFF St. Urho dinner.

Ottawa Finns Fail to Win Back Sisu Bowling Trophy (2011)

Despite a hard-fought battle, the Canadian Friends of Finland (Ottawa) once again lost out to a superior team in their annual Nordic Challenge bowling tournament.

 Risto Piipponen, at the Governor-General's Nordic Event

Finland's Ambassador to Canada, Risto Piipponen, is shown at the Governor-General's Nordic event this past weekend, surrounded by two of the mascots from Ottawa's annual Winterlude carnival event. The mascots, called ice hogs, were part of the event which was presented in partnership by exbits and events from the Embassies of Finland, the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Embassy of Sweden.
